****“SOS” Victims in Strong Earthquake Need HELP!****

                                                Earthquake in Southwestern China
Dear  All,

By now, you have all read the sad news that a major earthquake, the largest magnitude 7.9 earthquake in China since 1976, hit Sichuan Province at 14:28 yesterday.

[A comprehensive and up-to-date coverage from China offical meida  http://www.chinaview.cn/index.htm]

The earthquake had its epicentre at Wenchuan, about 100km North of Chengdu, and has caused significant loss of life as well as damage to property and infrastructure. About 10,000 people have been reported dead, a figure that may rise in coming days. Countless people have been injured. In this sad hour, however, it is with great relief that we can confirm to you that our colleagues in Chengdu have all been accounted for and are safe and sound.

A massive effort is underway to provide relief to the affected areas. It is an effort made difficult by the damage done to roads, bridges as well as bad weather. The full scale of the disaster has yet to emerge as many of the hardest hit areas have not yet been reached, but it is clear with what we know today that the damage to life and property is enormous.

The victims of this earthquake are in urgent need of assistance. Vast quantities of medicine, food and shelter are needed. Authorities are doing everything possible to alleviate the situation, but with a disaster of this scale victims are in need of all the help they can get.

We therefore encourage you to make a donation towards the earthquake victims.
Consolidated Appeal for Emergency Humanitarian Assistance for China.

I don't understand "move in what direction? and who is hypocrites".  Donating or not is up to you yourself, but pls do not make irresponsible and sarcastic remarks here, and don't make your childish asking"Does China need friends like this?" That's big hurt to  hundreds and thousands of victims in the earthquake.

Dear friends,

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have contacted us with their kind wishes of support for our colleagues and friends at The Bookworm Chengdu. Thankfully, everyone is safe.

The Bookworm are co-ordinating our efforts to help the people of Sichuan during this difficult time. The Bookworm Chengdu has become a focal point in assisting those groups currently providing on the ground support for those in Sichuan affected by the tragedy.

The Chinese Red Cross are currently setting up operations in affected areas. In the meantime, smaller groups are doing what they can to provide food, water, shelter and medicines.
The Bookworm are assisting these groups, until the larger organisations are able to provide support.

Could you pls provide us with more detailed info to prove that your org is associated with any official rescue program/mission?

My post, which has been deleted by some moderator because it made perfectly reasonable points was straightforward enough to understand, and certainly did not merit the emotional response deemed necessary by you, kisscatallsunny.

To reiterate: the Myanmar/Burma administration depends on China's support to defy international efforts to deliver aid and aid workers into Myanmar/Burma, and the aid which is delivered directly to the administration is stolen for its own use and rotten food is handed out to those suffering the effects of cyclone Nagris. If China's administration was engaged in the same behaviour, I do not think that you would be too pleased about it. Thus, does China need friends like the administration of Myanmar/Burma, given that China has requested and will receive international aid to help with its earthquake disaster. Maybe you would be good enough to let me know how this opinion is so wrong, taking into account that donations to the Myanmar/Burma, cyclone Nargis appeal have been effectively stolen by the Myanmar/Burma administration. Do you think that stealing donations and deliberately hindering help to the victims of cyclone Nargis is honourable behaviour by the administration of Myanmar/Burma?

According to an AP report: 'The United Nations said Tuesday that only a tiny portion of international aid needed for Myanmar's cyclone victims is making it into the country, amid reports that the military regime is hoarding good-quality foreign aid for itself and doling out rotten food.'
