The First Line of Defence for China

The First Line of Defence for China

I would like here to extend my heartfelt tribute and warmest greetings to all the Chinese patriots overseas.

By the time when the Olympic Torch has completed its global relay, which, for obvious reasons, was ridden with twists and turns, and finally come back to China on its continuing trail all safe and sound, I humbly feel that I owe them this.

Yes, overseas Chinese patriots of all places, all ages and all trades, it is you that I dedicate my homage to.  For it was you, who have just pulled off a magic merit in escorting the torch along its global trail while defending the dignity of your country, China, alongside.

You Were the First to Pick up Arms.

The poor Olympic Relay Torch didn’t expect the world out there to be such a perilous place.  All along its global journey, political gamesmen or pathological miscreants were all intent on kidnapping the innocent, chaste Olympic Goddess while trying to stigmatize China.  With the hosting of the summer Olympic Games being insidiously exploited for flagrant political ends, it was virtually an undeclared war sneakily waged on China.

Most brazenly, China’s opponents were dead-set on metamorphosing the torch relay into some “shame parade”.  Every step of the way, there were saboteurs lunging at the flame like vultures.  And at every turn, cowardly snipers were taking aim at the torch, and at China …

As a result, the sanctity of the Olympic flame and the dignity of your country were both plunged into peril.

At that critical crunch, you, the overseas legion of Chinese cavaliers blared a clarion call to arms and scrambled to action.

You Proved a Crack Fighting Force.

Fuelled by the combustion of indignation and patriotism, you fearlessly positioned your combat formation to face off your fierce rivals wherever they charged.

I can never forget all those devoted escorts at the scene of the relay, and all those battles against the opposing camp.  I remain amazed by your heroics that to assailants, you hit back tit for tat; and to provokers, you reasoned fact for fact.

And on another front, you resorted to other weapons, such as internet video platforms, to fight back and beat down the anti-China slur campaign.

The fact is that once you pitched into combat, the opponents were decidedly outnumbered and outgunned.  Their game plan got scuttled and their fight was no doubt lost.  The outcome of your valiant counter-offensive was only logical.

You proved your superior fighting power and the rivals proved to be no match.  I am sure that to many out there now, yours is a phalanx to reckon with.

You Have Won in the Battlefield.

My salute, Warriors.  Over an operation line stretched all around this planet, you have fought and won every battle.  You have come out the ones to call the shots in this campaign, but not those lousy dastards opposite.

Wherever the torch traveled, there was a never-failing Chinese legion following and guarding it, which made it as much a torch relay as an overseas Chinese battle group relay.

You have led China’s counter-offensive on this global battleground to an emphatic triumph.  Ever since you arrived at the combat zone, the Olympic Torch received a sure shield, and China gained reinforced protection.

Back to where its trajectory began, the Olympic Torch is, finally, all safe now.

And This Is an Epic Victory.

I am certain that your triumph has been watched by all on this planet.  And its impact has reached far and wide.

In the face of a heinous attack against China, you stepped forth to confront it.  And in this patriotic counter-offensive, united you stood, across the earth, and across the full gamut of political persuasions.  Yes, from every corner of the globe, overseas Chinese showed up more unified this time than any in recent memory.  Together, you triumphed resoundingly over this rare adversity.  I bet that to many a watcher anywhere, such unity has been daunting.

Out there in the world, you have made a difference.  Signs abound that your heroics has generated plenty of backlash against the anti-China camp and its sinister campaign.

And on the other hand, this turns out to be a patriotic movement that has reverberated most sonorously at home in China.

Along the relay voyage, tears were shed, when China was insulted.  Blood too, while fighting to defend her dignity.  Those were images indelible to all the folks at home too.  You have displayed how much you love your country, and, I am sure, your love has come also to make all your compatriots love your country even more.  I would bet my bottom euro on it.

Suffice it to recall that elegant young girl in Beijing, who was standing, all solitary but courageous, in front of a Carrefour holding a sign call for a boycott.  She was the single spark plug to a nation-wide patriotic campaign that sprang into motion.

Abroad and at home, the voice was loud and clear that the Chinese are not to be treated lightly anymore.  I am certain that they won’t.

I know for a fact that many Westerners are amazed by the Chinese wisdom of taking a crisis as an adversity that breeds an opportunity.  You have shown the world just that one more time.

All of you warriors have formed the very first line of defence for China.  You have virtually extended the Chinese Walls beyond China’s borders.

Because of you, as an advanced shield of the country, China is safer now.
