Why Chinese do not make democracy and human rights big topics?

This topic has been sticky by coolface at 15-5-2008 00:24.
Hi, Katzenfreund , here is a news I just got from a China official site:   http://www.china.org.cn/china/national/2008-04/21/content_14989480.htm

More than 100 officials, scholars and researchers from over 30 countries and international organizations attended the forum, which was organized by the China Society for Human Rights Studies. The theme of the forum is "Development, Security and Human Rights".

It seems that China government launched a program to make a different definition of "human rights".

Thank you

@brainwasher
Thank you a lot for the link. Organizations like "China Society for Human Rights Studies" is exactly what I am looking for. I may tell them a lot about the cynical difference of "Human rights" in theory and practice in western countries like Germany. Just look this example here: A 70 year old man was sent to prison because he asked a lawyer if he can afford to deal with his case - he wanted to see his granddaughter.

Such cases of human right violatons are not exceptions, but common practice in Germany. Western media and the western human right organisations are systematically denying such absurd cases of human right violations in Western countries. As inpependent internet journalistis in Germany we want the world to know about the cynical practice of "human rights" in Germany.

@fruitlover
Please don't give too much respect to Western political system. We have and bunch of liars, crooks and criminals occupying Western governments. The Western governments are used to kick "human rights" with feets and they can do that, because they know, there does not exist any Western media or "human rights" organization who will unveil the curtain and make their real behaviour public.

We love the idea of democracy. But we will never allow the West to intervene in our internal politics for their own political ends. Countries act in their own interest. The only reason the West is so vehement in pressuring China and the rest of the world to embrace "democracy" is that it wants to ensure the world-wide dominance of its own political ideals. It is part of their narcissistic belief that the rest of us must kow-tow to Anglo-Saxon ways of governance . It is this imperialistic way of thinking that has aroused so much aversion in us. Your hypocrisy has not helped either. You invaded Iraq in the name of "planting the seed of democracy" (and of course who could forget about the absurd lie about weapons of mass destruction). But in the end we witnessed the loss of 1 million of Iraqi civilian lives and Iraqi oil being shipped out of their country to god-knows-where.

To think that all your passionate talk about democracy and why we should embrace it is out of your genuine concern for our well-being is laughable. The world has lost confidence in your good nature, unfortunately.

The following quote from a Hong Kong based forum is telling:

"Democracy is no longer just a political system. It is an international reality. But international reality is driven by national interests plus the ambition of some national leaders.聽(1) To impose the same聽value systems on other peoples. (2) To accept 'friendly'聽governments and reject 'unfriendly' governments. (3) To punish governments who do not uphold or reject the same value systems. In this game, righteousness, or the concern for the common people, is never the primary consideration. International reality is based on power and strength."
