The monolithic interpretation of Asian values as hostile to democracy a-n-d political rights does not bear critical scrutiny. I should not, I suppose, be too critical of the lack of scholarship supporting these be-liefs, since those who have made these claims are [color=darkred][b]not scholars[/b][/color] but [color=darkred][b]political leaders[/b][/color], often official or unofficial spokesmen for authoritarian governments. It is, however, interesting to see that while we academics can be impractical about practical politics, practical politicians can, in turn, be rather impractical about scholarship.

Damn, that's one bizarre reference!! I salute you for your obscurity! And well done to Davo too for clarifying it (although you're just doing your job as a mod and so get no salute:P).On the topic at hand; that's a very wry remark about politicans. Pity that it's absolutely true!
