The Wishes of a Tibetan

Below are some small wishes from inner Tibetan people and hope to get support from the government:
1.
Hope to make Tibetan standard language. (86% of Tibetans think that Lhasa dialect should be Tibetan standard language). It is important issue, because it can solve the problem of communication between Tibetans from different Tibetan areas (Lhasa, Amdo, and Kham)
2.
Hope the government to recognize Tibetan monastic education degree.
Tibetan monastic education has very long history and perfect education system. Many famous Tibetan scholars are graduated from monastic schools. Also the students who are graduated from monastic schools couldn't get jobs in regular schools and government bureaus, because the government doesn't recognize monastic education degree.
It is one big reason that colleges and universities lacking Tibetan professors.
"Rdo Rang" Degree should be BA degree. "Tshorang" Degree should be MA degree. "Lharang" Degree should be Ph.D.
3.
Hope all the Tibetan areas practice bilingual education. (Except Chinese Langue the entire subjects teach in Tibetan). Many Tibetan areas already practiced bilingual education and they got great achievements. Because of language obstacle the students couldn't get the contents of the courses very well. For example: if the teacher asks the students in Tibetan 1+1=? All the students can answer the question 1+1=2. If the teacher asks the students in Chinese 1+1=? All the students don't know what the teacher is talking, because they don't speak Chinese. So many people think them as the youngest translator in the world.
4.
Hope Tibetan folk music, traditional Tibetan art, and Tibetan history put into regular school courses in Tibetan schools of 5 Tibetan related provinces.

5.
Hope to build some Tibetan primary school, middle schools, high schools, and universities in cities that most Tibetan people live. Many Tibetan people live in cities for their jobs. So they encounter many difficulties to choose schools for their children. They want to let their children to study Tibetan and Tibetan culture, but there are no Tibetan schools in those cities. For example: Xining City of Qinghai, Chengdu City of Sichuan, Lanzhou City of Gansu, Kunming City of Yunan province. I also know a primary school in Kangding that named "Tibetan Primary School", but they have very few Tibetan classes. We can say none. We really hope the government to build some Tibetan Universities in Tibetan areas.
6.
Hope all the government bureaus use Tibetan in Tibetan areas.
Most government bureaus in Tibetan areas use Chinese rather than Tibetan. For example: They use Chinese when they hold meetings, their most documents are in Chinese, and so on.
7. Hope the government to create more Tibetan TV programs in Tibetan areas. There are two famous TV channels in Tibetan areas. They are Lhsa Tibetan TV program and Qinghai Tibetan TV channel, those channel can't get signal in other Tibetan areas. That's why we hope the government to create Tibetan TV channels in Sichuan, Gansu, and Yunan Province. Especially, to create Tibetan TV programs in Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures and county TV channels. Tibetan people like to watch Tibetan styled TV channels and programs.
8. Hope to add Tibetan culture and Tibetan history course in Xizang Ban (Tibetan programs in big cities such as Beijing, Chongqing, and so on)
9. Hope the government to train more Tibetan skilled people.
10. Hope all the examination paper is in Tibetan.
For example:
Government official examination, undertaking institutions exam, and so on. Most Tibetan areas gave those examinations in Chinese. So that caused Tibetan students have very seriously problem with finding jobs.

We wish 2008 Beijing Olympic Game will be successful!!!

many on the list are already in progressor is being done

the head of tibet government says "I speak tibetan in beijing but speaks mandarin in lhasa"

he means tibetan culture and language is already accepted in beijing

@Arok

I have just read the wishes you are making and I feel there is not to much wrong with it to give you those things but I do have some remarks to it.

First about education. I understand that it is easier when your lessons are in Tibetan but school is not there to make it easy on you it is there to prepare you for life. If they don't teach you Chinese then how can you survive and get a good job outside your own region? I know how hard it is to have lessons in a different language because all my lessons are in English and so are the books and exams. This is difficult in the beginning but I know it will benefit me greatly when I get trough this. I do think there should be a option to learn Tibetan at school and also history. I feel strange you also want to learn Tibetan culture because if you are Tibetan then you will also know Tibetan culture right?

You also mention about the Tibetan monastic education. Is this education to become a monk or rather a scientist in Tibetan religion? Please tell me more about this education so I can form an opinion about it.

I feel every Tibetan should be bilanguagal but I foresee more difficulties when everything is in Tibetan. But you can put everything in both languages like some other countries have done and also China has when you go in the direction of Korea then close to the border all the road signs are in Korean and Chinese. But I think excluding Chinese language from the area is not a good idea. Don't forget most of your income is from tourists.

I don't know what you exactly mean by government training Tibetan skilled people, you mean people who can speak the Tibetan language?

arok:

some of wishes would certainly drag the tibetan people behind; just like those hispanics (spanish speaking people) in the states, most of them struggle in poverty because they lacks of skills. they don't do well in schools because of language problems. in fact bilingual education (spanish and english) in the states is synonymous for failures.

those tibetans in exile from india are supposedly bilingual, but the quality of their education just a joke!!! on the contrast, those tibetans from china who were educated in chinese colleges are, in general, very successful.

in the states, in those graduate schools, students from china (no matter what ethnicities), students from russia  are dominated for all kinds of scholarships...

Sounds like DL's wish list to me.

wis@Arok
There are a lot of self contradiction in the list.:
1.  If it is for Tibet, how come schools in Qinghai and Sichuan has to adopt these policies? They have to conform to their local government policies. You are not suggesting a "Greater Tibet Nation" are you?

2. You told us Tibet did not have a standard language yet, how can you provide text book in Tibetan "language".

3. You told us the education in Tibet should be bi-lingual but you only specifid the other must not be Chinese, what  then is the other language you have in mind? American, English, French, German or Spanish?

4. You want the monastic University to be recognise as formal university with graduate degrees. Can you produce a unify curriculum for such Universities of the Yellow Hat, Red Hat, Black Hat sects (not to mention the other smaller sects) . Who will finally decide what to adopt?.

I just spotted a few points for you to consider. May be others can find out more,  You can wish for many things in you prayer. If it is impracticable, it can just remain in your dream.

If 86% of Tibetans want Lhasa dialect to be the standard language, it falls to reason that the desired textbooks would also be in that language.

He meant that all subjects should be taught in Tibetan except for Chinese language classes.

indeed, the list, the tone, the wording, all smell like something from dharamsala.

nice, but who are "we"? sounds like those "we" are not chinese...

well, then how those young, talented tibetans find jobs in other parts of china? the population of tibetans are only around 6 millions (far less than manchurians), do you expect the rest of chinese population change to tibetan language? translate all of books, in all subjects in tibetan? also millions of terms in tibetan must be created  in order to accommodate the such effort...

even in europe, now english is de facto business language.

That is exactly what I meant. They have not even decide what a standard Tibatan language is, how can they start writing text boos in "Tibetan languge"?
