You are either naive or unable to grasp complex ideas. None of the statements you made are as black and white as you say.
Your last statement sums up your lack of understanding of the world in which humans interact. The real truth is that with over 6 billion people on this planet there are over 6 billion dreams and ideas of exactly how this world should be. “We want One World, One Dream, And Peace On Earth.” Is a lie that even you must know if you have talked with more than a handful of people. If you do not know that it is a lie then you need to wake up and actually read some of the news you have access to.
“Enough is Enough, Enough Hypocrisy for this one world.”
Hypocrisy is a human trait; it will always exist, just as justice will always be based one’s point of view of right and wrong.
When you ask what do we want, who are you asking? The US Government, all Western Governments, the people outside of China, or me; personally? And who are you to even ask? Can you make any of the changes that might be given in answer? Do you have any power at your disposal to change any aspect of China’s policies that you listed above? Are you even willing to try, should an answer be given?
In closing, I just want to remind you, and I hope this does not freak you out too much, but not everyone in your country, mine or any other WANTS peace on earth. There are people who believe that this world is not big enough. Nor even it was, would they give up fighting for a bigger piece of it.
If you were asking what I want let me know I am LastDavid at Google’s mail service and I will let you know what I want from China.
So the focus is that sentence "One world, one dream" right?
I think you have misunderstood that. This "one dream" means we celebrating during the Olympic games regardless of any conflicts between us. So it's NOT an assertion sentence like "all people in the world have the same (political) opinion" but a description about Olympic spirit. It is more like a description of a hope. Official explanation? Who cares???
Just think about the people in ancient Greece. Wars between city-states paused during Olympic games. That's it.
So it's not a summit filled with endless meetings, discussions or arguments. It's a festival. "Angry boys" (in China it's not a commendatory term :) ) won't understand this.
I think you do know that but just misunderstand the sentence's meaning.
Second, maybe you, an individual, don't view China with colored glasses, but that doesn't negate the poet's opinion: for a long time, the main stream of western media has been treating China and Chinese people with colored glasses considering Chinese people blind and needs to be saved, Just like my hating red color doesn't mean most of Chinese people hate red color. :)
Lack of listening to western voices? Makes me laugh....since 20 years ago, Chinese students haven't trusted official news. Thanks to Internet and China's opening door to the world 20 years ago, most of the news and opinions from here and there can spread among students, old pops, workers and kids, of course including your opinions. In fact, because of the difference of western and eastern languages (and many other factors for example economical influence), we can understand your opinions, your feelings and your culcures(by watching "Angel Emily", "Empire Falls", "Friends", CNN news, reading articles in personal blogs, in forum and in works etc.) but u can hardly get us by.....reading Chinese characters.
For a long time, the exchange of opinions between us (not only between China and the western world but also the west and the east) is a one-way path. If the factors that make the talk between us so hard were gone, the misunderstandings would have gone too.
Take "Command & Conquer: Generals" for example. WestWood can hardly understand why Chinese players were so disappointed at the game. There indeed are many interesting things in the game attracting both Chinese and American players: counter-strike, co-operation between the countries, the views of cities and towns in China, etc. But you know what? Many Chinese players take this game as a third-rate joke to kill time. The uniforms of the Chinese soldiers in the game belong to 1980s or earlier times. "Red Gardians" who in fact were the brainwashed youth in 1960s are fighting the terrorists in the game. The citizens in the game are in dresses of the year 1960 dancing like idiots. Maybe you don't know what that funny dance is. That is called "dance of loyalty" popular in 1960s, which is now a symbol of 1960s, a political disaster, ignorance, brainwashing, political persecution and so much pain. WestWood's Lack of understanding of Chinese history caused all of these "jokes". These "jokes" (without malice, I know) are taunts in many Chinese people's opinions. If you can't understand their feelings, just imagine a game named "Aragon's Adventure in Moderm America". In this game all citizens nowadays in USA are dressed in KKK's uniform, waving Indian's scalps in their hands, whipping black slaves, shouting "be quick you Crow Jim!". Yes, similar "jokes". These "jokes" are caused by our lack of talkings between each other, which makes things worse.
Open your eyes and read more historical works written not only in English, but also in French, German, Japanese and Chinese (of course language is a problem but English language version of these documents can help), then you can understand the feeling of the poet.
When I was 3, I even thought all the money can be withdrawn in banks at my will no matter how much I want.
But of course, now, I, as a 24 aged young man understanding the society, has already known that what I used to believe ("money can be withdrawn in banks at my will",(3 years old) "official news is truth", "people around the world all love peace"(6 years old), "voices from the west r truth"(13 years old), "freedom fighters Ken and Ryo(u know what I mean :) ) r pure as virgins"(16 years old), "western politicians really want to help us"(16 years old), "if 100 people tell me Jack is a murderer, he is a murderer"(10 years old)) r all JOKES. :)
There's an idiom in Chinese "3 liers makes an inexistent tiger exist". It shows the danger of we getting used to listening to the same voices. If most of the voices repeat and repeat in a same tone for a long time, I think you should be watchful. Most of Chinese people have realized this long before, which is why I haven't mention the official voices. They even want to describe all the people as one love-and-peace group, and cut off almost all the images showing French students disturbing the relay. Few Chinese believe this beautiful official image of love and peace. I think you can also tell the lies and the truth by reading, searching and listening.
