China has arrived

TheBeijing Olympic opening and closing ceremonies wowed the world. Theywere powerful, poetic, magical, innovative, high-tech, and above all,grand.
The Chinese have set the bar high for future hosts. Whatwas so impressive about the 29th Olympics was not just the grandeur ofthe venues or the events, but also the complexity of the choreographyand the enormous logistics involved. Every step was meticulouslyplanned, leaving nothing to chance. Everything ran like clockwork.
Despitethe cultural difference and the language barrier, the Chinese peopleproved to be helpful and hospitable hosts. They greeted visitors withbroad smiles, and offered friendly advice.
TheChinese people have improved their standard of living by leaps andbounds, and they have freedom to say and do just about anything, otherthan to topple the government.
Some said this was a coming-outparty for China. But it was more to it than that. It was a watershedmoment in modern Chinese history.
When have you seen more thanone billion people speaking in one voice and cheering for the samething? Chinese people stood up to be counted. They served notice to theworld that they are no longer the sick men of Asia. We are witnessinghistory in the making.
This is just the beginning; there will be more to come.
Ithas taken China 30 years, since Deng Xiaoping's open policy, to achievewhat she has. In another 30 years, China will be much different. Butdon't worry. China has never been an aggressive nation historically,and has no aspiration to become a superpower. She only claims whateveris rightfully hers.
It took more than 60 years for westernnations to become what they are. Prior to the Second World War, mostwestern powers were imperialistic; they had no moral authority to judgeother countries.
Given time, China will become a good global citizen, which will contribute to world peace.

中国人的创举为未来的奥运主办国出了一道难题，北京奥运会似乎树立了一个难以逾越的标杆。开幕式和闭幕式体现的不仅仅是场面上的宏大，集体舞蹈和队形的编排所体现的逻辑和精准让人震撼。每一个环节都找不到瑕疵和误差，简直像是电脑控制的。
不考虑文化背景的差异以及语言的障碍，中国人显然证明了自己是一个非常热情好客的东道主。他们热情周道，笑迎八方来客。

这一次，中国人展现的是一次飞跃。显然，他们有充分的言行自由，当然前提是不去颠覆政府。有人说这是中国政府的一次亮相，但是其实不尽然，这是当代中国历史的分水岭。

这一切，仅仅是一个开始而已。

中国在邓小平的倡导下，改革开放30年，实现了巨大的进步。在下一个30年，中国将发生更大的变化。但是不必担心，在历史上，中国从来没有侵犯其他国家，也从来没有成为霸主的野心。她只是要拿回本应属于她自己的一切。

中国花了30年所取得的成绩，西方国家却花了60年。在二战之前，大多数西方集权是帝国主义，在道义上，他们无权判断对其他国家品头论足。
