Pakistani president to address nation
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan's beleaguered president, Pervez Musharraf, who is under immense pressure to step down, will address the nation at 1 p.m. Monday (3 a.m. ET), his spokesman said.

Local media reports said the president has been granted "safe passage" out of the country -- a means to avoid impeachment, which would be the first in the country's history.
Musharraf has until now stubbornly resisted pressure to resign. His spokesman has called the media reports "baseless."

A spokeswoman for the ruling Pakistan People's Party, which has taken steps to impeach Musharraf, did not dismiss the possibility.
"The decision to give a safe passage to the president is on discretion of the coalition leadership," Sherry Rehman told reporters.

Musharraf's once-considerable power has eroded significantly since parties opposed to his rule swept the parliamentary elections this year.
Since last week, the new ruling coalition has been taking steps to force Musharraf to step down or face impeachment.
Pakistan's four provincial assemblies voted on resolutions calling on him to give up power.
自从今年反对党不满穆沙拉夫的政策，取得了议会选举的绝对胜利，穆沙拉夫曾经巨大的权力被大大削弱。
