msin,
dl isn't pacifist but the very representation of his class: high ranking monks, aristocrats, and headmen (all serf-owners). His works or books or words before 1994 (?) were all for total independence of the Greater Tibet which is 2-5 times larger than he had ever had control of. He wasn't vocally against violence before, but only said it years after China had established diplomatic relationship with US. US cut off all the aids to the military rebel in Nepal, which effectively made impossible any military action of any kind.
Don't forget that 90% of the exile Tibetans in 1960 were from serf-owning families.
